Comment from a Director:
"I absolutely "died and went to Heaven" the summer of 1970 when I became a first time trail rider with the Fort Seward Wagon Train. I was 24 yrs old and the chaperon for my 16 yr. old sister, .... I decided then and there that I would go again when my family was old enough. In 1979 our youngest child was 4 yrs old and our family of 5 spent the next 13 years traveling with the Fort Seward Wagon Train. We have many wonderful memories and made many lasting friendships over the years.... I LOVE North Dakota! The earthy smell of it's rolling land, the glorious sight of it's sunsets & sunrises, the fragrance of it's prairie flowers, farmer's fields of growing crops, alfalfa, sweet clover, and crisp, fresh smell after a summer rainfall. This is the best way to experience North Dakota living!"

Jan. 23, 2007: Wow! Just as we suspected, our wagon seating for the 2008 wagon train appears to be booked full. But we can still accept more individuals who plan to come with their own saddle horses.

This early in the year there is always a possibility of cancellations, so, if you would like to be on a waiting list, and let the Registrar know what number of people you would like to be placed on the waiting list. She will place you on a waiting list by turn, and will let you know if an opening becomes available for your number of individuals.

Dec. 15, 2007: MERRY CHRISTMAS! and we hope you have a BLESSED NEW YEAR! Website registrations are coming in. Don't delay getting your registrations in, we expect to have the 2008 wagon train all booked up earlier then normal.

Nov. 30, 2007: Registrations are open. A little delay with getting brochures printed, but we hope to get those mailed out sometime in December. We hope each of you had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Sept 30, 2007: Great news, plans are in the making for the 2008 wagon train. Dates are set for the wagon train to be held June 29th through July 5th, 2008. The wagon train will depart from and return back to Jamestown, North Dakota to help Jamestown celebrate their 125th birthday. Title of this wagon train will be Buffalo City 125th Celebration Trail. Plans are to open registration for this event in October.

Aug 30, 2007: Sorry I'm behind on the updates. I got injured this July, had surgery and a hospital stay. So, just starting to catch up with things. First of all, THANK YOU! To the participants, staff, landowners, businesses, individuals, and City of Ellendale, who all helped to make the 2007 wagon train possible. All your efforts combined, gave us another great wagon train adventure to remember.

The board is already working on details for the next wagon train. The dates will be June 29th through July 5th, 2008. Fort Seward, Inc. will be taking part in helping Jamestown, ND celebrate their 125th Birthday. Registrations will tentatively open about in October. The board has a few more details to finalize before officially accepting registrations. Rivertrail to Ellendale

June 7, 2007: Wow, time is flying by. Hard to believe the wagon train is just a couple short weeks away! It sounds like all the available wagon seats are booked full. The board will still accept registrations of a few horseback riders bringing their own horses to ride.

It has been a very rainy spring here is North Dakota. Everything is green and lush. Make sure you pack rain gear and test your tents to make sure they do not leak. Just in case some of this rain continues into our wagon train week. We also have been having both cool and very warm days. So have warmer clothes to layer over cooler clothes for both types of weather, during our day time travels. Have a sweat suit to sleep in on those cooler nights, if needed. Make sure your walking shoes are broke in before coming on the wagon train, if you enjoy walking.

DON'T FORGET, your chapstick and take a look at our Handy Packing Check List (.pdf) and where is the Fort Seward Park? The Park is in the NW part of the city on the crest of a grass covered hill overlooking the city. The old fort is gone but some of the cellar areas of the buildings remain. There are sheltered picnic tables there and historic marker. It's address is 1100 5th Street Northwest (look for signs). Click here for a Map of Jamestown, ND.

May, 2007: Registrations are getting almost full. States we have represented for our 2007 wagon train are: CA, IA, MN, MS, NC, ND, NY, OH, OR, PA, SD, TX, WA, and WI. We have a nice variety of people coming, and we are looking forward to having each of you join us.

Feb. 28, 2007: This last day of Feb. is certainly going out like a Lion, we have a blizzard! We are also wondering if March will come in like a Lion too! Weatherman has been telling us folks in ND to expect 4 to 10 inches of new snow.

The board has been busy working on the details for the 2007 wagon train. I haven't been informed how the quilt contest went, but when I get the info, I will pass it on to you. So far, we have people registered from these states for the 2007 wagon train: CA, IN, MI, MN, NC, ND, OH, PA, SD, TX, and WI. If you don't see your state...why don't you "Come, Circle Up With Us".

Jan. 8, 2007: Lots of snow started out the New Year in ND. Many in our area reported 10 to 12 inches of snow. Also, thank you to those of you who have registered for the 2007 wagon train so far, we will be looking forward to seeing you in June!

For those of you who gave a donation to receive a 2006 wagon train DVD video. They were mailed out today. If you would like one, please go to our Novelty page and order from there. Our Registrar Mary Ann said she received some brochures from the printer, so she will be mailing those this week too.

Dec. 26, 2006: We hope you had a Merry Christmas. And Happy New Year too! There is a hold up on the 2006 wagon train video. We had some nice music on it, but with copywrite rules and the difficultly to get permission to use it, we had to wait for some re-editing to be done.

Nov. 27, 2006: We actually had a very nice month in North Dakota, up until today! Today we had mist and snow, now everything is white and icy. We hope all of you have a Blessed Thanksgiving with your family. We just love the Holidays in North Dakota.

Officially our Registrations are Open! You may register with three or more persons until March 31st and receive a 10% discount. We are still working on our printed brochures with some artwork requirements, but hope to get them out in the mail soon.

We are also working on finishing up the editing on the 2006 DVD videos and hope to have them out in the mail before mid-December. If you haven't ordered one yet: Click Here to order, video is available as VHS tape or DVD.

Oct. 27, 2006: Burrr, we have already had some snow in North Dakota, but there are farmers hoping that more snow holds off, as they are still out harvesting beans, sunflowers, and corn. And the snowmobilers are hoping for more snow, ASAP.

We have a few changes on the board of directors for our new Fiscal Year. First of all we want to Thank our retiring former board member Donna Wanzek for several years of service to the Fort Seward, Inc. wagon train. We appreciated all her sincere efforts to help keep the wagon wheels rolling and to help keep up the tradition of having an annual fund raising wagon train quilt.

THANK YOU, DONNA!

Next we want to Thank volunteer, Teresa Fewell, for taking on the job of Quilt Contest Chairmen. Donna will assist Teresa as needed for her new job. We appreciate both of you, for handling this job for us.

And finally we want to welcome our two new board members Curt Kaiser and Christina Maertens. We are happy to have these Fort Seward Wagon Train supporters join the team. You can read about our Wagon Train Team.

Now for the news you all have been waiting for:

WHEN IS THE NEXT WAGON TRAIN?

The "Rivertrail to Ellendale" wagon train will be held June 24th through the 30th, 2007. So, mark your calendars, request your vacation time, and come join us! We hope to have the website accepting registrations by the end first full week in November. We are also working on brochures to take to the printer.

Sept. 14, 2006: The board has started planning for the 2007 wagon train. Tentatively we are looking at going south of Jamestown, ND and are investigating into visiting two communities and their events. We will be checking out to see if dates/etc. will work out for us. This will take a little time, as we need to wait until these communities have their committee meetings, so they can get back to us with details. Hopefully we will have an official announcement to make after our October meeting, as to the dates, prices, and details of our 2007 wagon train.

August 27 , 2006: Nothing much for news at the moment. The board is finishing up old business for the 2006 wagon train as the books for the current fiscal year are to be closed on Aug. 31st. At the Sept. meeting they will start working on goals/plans for the 2007 wagon train. Again, Thank You to all those who helped to make the 2006 wagon train possible.

Steele 125th Birthday Trail logoJuly 1, 2006: We made it! The last couple days it was getting a little hot, but we made it to Steele, ND and also made lots of new friends along the way.

The wagon train ended on a beautiful sunny morning by parading through Steele, ND to help celebrate their 125th Birthday. We want to thank all the Staff members and Participants who attended and contributed so much to make the wagon train possible. We also want to thank all the landowners, public services, businesses, and individuals, who contributed in numerous ways to help keep the wagon wheels rolling another year.

Our next goal is to finish up the business from this year. And then to put goals down for the 2007 wagon train on the drawing board. We hope to make announcements concerning the 2007 wagon train about September or October.

June 7, 2006: Wow! Almost wagon train time. The board is working away on last minute details for the 2006 wagon train. With one more Board meeting in June to finalize the details. Recent rains have really greened up the country side. We have people coming from these states: CA, IL, IN, KY, MN, ND, NC, NE, OH, TX, WI, and Onterio, Canada.

We are looking forward to seeing each of you on June 25th at the Fort Seward Park. Be sure to print out a copy of the city map to find the location. Look for the huge American flag on the top of the hill in the NW corner of the city of Jamestown. We will be circling our wagons there to start the wagon train.

February 9, 2006: Happy Valentines Day to our covered wagon train lovers out there! The board is working away on details for the wagon train. Some of our volunteers just put in a weekend at trade show booth. They promoted the wagon train with display and a bake sale for a fund raiser, in Jamestown, North Dakota. They have another booth planned at the ND Winter Show in the near future.

January 5, 2006: Happy New Year! Sorry we took so long to open the registrations for the 2006 wagon train. There were a lot of details to work out with other committees/boards, which included waiting for some meetings to be held. But, details are now worked out, and our Registrations are officially open. We hope you can join us on the Steele 125th Birthday Trail, June 25th through July 1st, 2006. Try to register in groups/family of 3 or more persons, as the board is again offering a 10% discount until March 31, 2006 only, for early registrations.

November 28, 2005: The Board of Directors continue working on the details for the 2006 wagon train. However, confirmation for the registration fees have been received. There will be no changes in fees from 2005. Brochures are going through the setup and proof reading and we hope to open registrations soon.
